and that is when i red jeff ashton's book that the movie is based on, who i play in the movie, i was really surprised at some of the twists and turns. some of the overreach and some of the things that went on to lead us to where the country was so shocked by the verdict. >> what was surprising about ashton, his record is extraordinary. 68 out of 70 homicide convictions, 12 out of 12, death penalty convictions. almost a perfect record, and everybody assumed he would have another take, this was going to be a real conviction, and there was shock when she walked. did you get to meet him? >> he actually came to visit the day i did the closing argument. >> really? so he watched you deliver. >> he watched me deliver his closing argument and it is a direct transcript. it is what he actually said. he is by the monitor, while i'm out in the courtroom, which is an exact replica of the courtroom in orlando. >> what did he say to you? >> it was pretty surreal, i almost didn't want to go back and see him, as if he would give me the oh, boy face. >> well he has to be happy, he has rob lowe playing
